You don't have to spend bombs to find German Pork Knuckles!

Ho-yeaa~~ Mitch is indulging on good food again!!! German Pork Knuckles are favorites of many of us, paired with some beer and all, what a wonderful dinner eh! Oh gosh, so we are gonna spend a bomb on our dinner again?? Answer is.. No.

KNUCKLES is tucked away in the heartland area, a corner in Hougang (Boyfriend stays near there.. =p). It is a small bistro cafe, not much of any exotic designs except for its woody old Germany style, slightly dimmed, they are not using any chairs with back, thus I really got nowhere to put my bag but hugging it... But I do pretty like their tables.. =)

Our mains took a little while to come, hence, the sides were up first. There are also free flow of water available. I was told they were quite shorthanded in the past, though they increase a couple more pairs of hands, you still gotta wait awhile. (meat don't get cooked so fast, stop complaining!!!!)

Truffle Fries - S$6

Where on earth can you find a $6 truffle fries?!!! At least I know here has it. ;) I am a big lover of potatos, MacDonald Fries, Wedges, etc and ESPECIALLY truffle fries. I will always try not to miss ordering if it is in the menu. Try, because at some places, the price are really exorbitant! For a $6 truffle fries, you cannot expect too much yes? Truffle fragrance, yes, but not too much. Cheese, yes, but not too many. Fries, portion was just nice for the price. When you get to the bottom of the little basket, you can hardly taste the truffle. But still, S$6 only!

Pork Knuckle - S$10

Their signature crispy skin Pork Knuckle is only $10! Portion is quite small, it's half of a full knuckle. As you can see, the sauce for the Pork Knuckle is definitely lacking, the meat is a little teeny weeny dry, not those oily ones that had layers of fats in between the meat kind. But, it was not tough to bite. lightly saltish, not much of the herbal/spices taste that sometimes we get. But I must compliment the skin - Brown, crispy skin, with a layer of fats underneath. you can choose to remove the fats, but i love the fats, 'nuff said. =)

The mash potato tastes smooth, the brown sauce is not at all peppery. The whole thing tasted like 7 - 11 mash potato, but probably better.

Grilled Chicken Chop - S$8

Grilled Chicken Chop in Brown Sauce. I like the sauce, because it is not peppery (I don't fancy spicy stuff unless needed a de-stress). Got a bite of it, it is very tender, and juicy. The whole taste was very complimenting! However, I was told the veggies are really disappointing.

Knuckles's Signature Pasta - S$12

Most expensive mains of the night - S$12. Mussels, prawns and squids with Chilli. The portion is not very huge, but decent for a meal. Boyfriend said the mussel was fresh and really loved it! Haha! This pasta tasted really good, but spicy! If you are a chilli lover, it is definitely worth a try!

 Pork Steak - S$8

Oh my favorite piece of meat! In my opinion, this is really the best main of the whole meal. Awesome tender meat, in black pepper sauce. The taste of black pepper was quite mild, hence not choking spicy. There was still some pinkish tint when you cut it, but rest assure not bloody. But if you concerned about eating pink pork meat, I felt it is still safe as long as it is properly cooked. But this pork steak is really wonderful, for a whooping 8 bucks only!! I must say it is one of the nicest pork steak I had ever eaten anywhere else. <3 Thank you Ellen for that heavenly bite!

Quite a satisfying meal at this small cafe. Cafe food are generally costly but Knuckles is a rare find that serves decent western food at a good price. Yes, you can definitely find cheaper and better food at a Hawker Centres, but I would definitely return for that pork steak!

What are good food to you? Fine dining? Expensive Ingredients, Atas(highclass) atmosphere? Michelin x-stars restaurant? Celebrity branded? Or simply nice tasting food to you at any corner of the world?? Everyone's taste buds' demand and expectations are different, what taste heavenly to me, does not necessary mean it taste heavenly to you. That is the reason why I never rated my food, and I can only describe the food as best as what my taste buds tell me. And whether do one really favor it, it is really up to the individual.
