Taiwan Trip 16 - 23 May 2015 (Leo Foo Village + Tai Chung Feng Jia Night Market)
Ya know my itinerary is really pretty packed, such that we changed hotel almost EVERYDAY. Many will think that it is very tiring, troublesome, but well, we should do all these when we are young right?! I don't mind tiring myself out, or in fact, all these are too fun that I forgotten I am tired.
17 May 2015
The next morning we checked out of our hotel and travelled to Leo Foo Village (六福村). The hotel provided a one-way trip out to Tao Yuan HSR, and we took a cab from there.
This is one of the attractions that I had been wanting to go during my previous trips. By the way, I always love theme parks. It always look so fun whenever I watch them on TV!! Since young, I never had much opportunity to go themeparks. If you ask me, Singapore had not many exciting themeparks to begin with, but I have been to - Escape Theme Park, Sentosa Asian Village (long gone), Haw Par Villa (became an abandoned attraction), and Universal Studios Singapore. Well, my thought is, Leo Foo Village had rides that are more, more, MORE exciting. Almost every ride is like USS's Battlestar Galatical or even more thrilling!
Leo Foo Village: Guanshi Jen, HsinChu County, Taiwan
See this. This is not a Ferris Wheel. It is a wheel ride - a 360deg wheel ride (烽火轮). Hahaha and yes! This is our first ride of the day! We were very adventurous to start off with something so thrilling huh!! Woo!!! Thank goodness we survived the ride without puking. ^.^
This is also a ride, where the seats part will literally turn 360deg.
This is a vertical drop ride, and I have a story to share on this. While I was below queuing, I was quite puzzled why the people who took the ride were so calm and we didn't hear any screams. But when I took it, I understood why.
The ride rose up to about 7 or 8 storeys high, it stopped there for about 10 seconds, then suddenly drop down with NO indication!! So all the screaming happened at the top, when it reached 3/4 down all the screaming stopped already. That explains why when the ride reached bottom, everybody was calm. duh right!!! Hahaha! Nevertheless still 'screamed-die-me'...
Next up is the downstream boat ride. Like the old Haw Par Villa ride, the bump boat will dash down from the top, and you will surely get wet. There are vending machines that sells poncho, cost approximately SGD2. There were 2 levels, so 2 times of dash. Still 'screamed-die-me'.
The classic Pirate Ship ride, 'screamed-die-me'.
Here is another 360deg ride, the Big Ben. Funny part of this ride is, Boyfriend did not expected it to be 360deg. So you can guess when it turn a full round, he screamed like mad. Somehow this ride turns more round than the others, and some point, we hear people shouting "why hasn't it stop yet?!!! Is the machine spoil?!!! OMG!!!"
Damn funny!! Haha while this was the 3rd 360deg ride, I actually just enjoyed the turns and laugh at my Boyfriend. Muahahaha!
After a few rounds of exciting rides, we decided to go for some less intimidating ones (only a few "^.^)
The flying carpet. Basically this is for kids. How calm. ;)
As we comb the area, Boyfriend spotted a game that ended us with these!!! I never had soft toys in a while, in fact I always restraint myself from getting them since many years ago my parents kept all of my soft toys away. Thanks to my marksmen Boyfriend!!!! Hehehe that I can be a kiddy girl again.. All of the ducklings can make a sound, so cute can!!! ♡♡♡♡
If anyone chance upon any shooting game stalls in Singapore, feel free to let us know!
However not all things were enjoyable, poor Boyfriend dropped his iPhone while trying to carry all the soft toys for me!!!! Sobz! Anyone wanna sponsor a smart phone for my wonder Boyfriend?? Hehe #justkidding
Saw Cao Ni Ma (草泥马) passing by..
Sheeps on the loose!!
Tourist are free to pet them. Food can be bought from the staff to feed them too. *so cuteeeeee*
Leo Foo Village opening hours are generally from 9 am to 5 pm but they close later on weekends. the ticket price is NTD999. There was a discount for us as I paid with my Citibank credit card.
Just a quick info for you. You don't have to worry about lugging your luggage with you if you can't check in any hotels early morning. Leo Foo village do have a customer service counter where you can put your luggage at. They will put it in their office, but they will let you know that they will not help to look after but just let you leave your luggage in their office. So if you are planning to lug your luggage along, do remember to lock your luggage properly before leaving it in their care.
Next stop, Taichung!!!!! Erm, the travelling part is pretty complicated, cos once again taxi drivers suggested alternative routes to what we planned. She drove us to a bus station to take a private bus to Chao Ma (朝马).
From there, we took a cab to our hotel, Grano House. Reason being the duration is about the same but cheaper, cos we took bus instead of HSR, and Chao Ma is actually nearer to Grano House Well, it's another experience. Sound like a adventurous, hahaha!! Moreover, we get to nap on the bus. A lot of people wondered, "ain't you all tired rushing around?" The answer is 'not quite', because we always get to nap abit during the travelling.
We reached Grano House in Taichung in late afternoon and we finally took a short break.
Our plans for Taichung is pretty simple - Eat, shop, eat, shop, eat! Sounds simple? Ha!! But it's not an easy task at all!!! Look at all the street food we had!! Sorry I didn't take photos of all our shopping loots cos I don't really have the habit of doing so, and it's quite a lot... *Oops!*
The busy night market just started their business and there are so many people already!
BBQ Abalones! Tasted quite fishy, but still worth a try.
BBQ Squid. Boyfriend's favorite.
How could we miss the famous 官芝霖 大肠包小肠?! It tastes really awesome. Must try!
Happily queuing!
Thirst-quenchers all along the night markets
Continue eating. These BBQ grills are norms in night markets. I like their innards most of the time.
I was shopping for shoes. In total, I got about 6 pairs, 3 for myself, 2 for aunt and mum, 1 for dad. They all love the shoes!! What is so special about Taiwan shoes?
1) They have wonderful, awesome, memory foam in-soles
2) Quality is good most of the time. It can last more than 6 months for normal wear. According to the staff, most shoes are made in Taiwan.
3) Very value for money. Most shoes here cost NTD 290 for the ladies, about NTD 490 and above for the guys.
The thing about the shoes shops is, the designs look practically the same in every shop. There will be one or two that will be different from each shops, you got to really spend some time to find the ones you like. Some times this shop run out of the color or size that you want, but you will find them down a few shops later.
Boyfriend was also shopping for shoes. He got 1 pair.
Bear Paw! Originated from Taiwan. Tastes awesome as well.. Must try!
Another item that you can commonly find in Taiwan - Umbrellas! Mainly because Taiwan really rain pretty often.
Another item which is famous in Taiwan. Waterproof bags and pouches. You already can see many people selling them in Singapore. Very good to bring back as souvenirs - or maybe not anymore. =/
The very nice thirst-quencher! 爱玉冰! Ice Jelly drink. Taiwan's pearl tastes awesome no matter where.
We chance upon some interesting shops around too! Texas Poker game shops. Apparently, this was not the only one we chance upon in Taiwan. Not sure if it is legalised, but they will not betting real money. You buy chips from them to play, the amount that you win at the end, will be converted to points, and those points can be used to exchange for prize items.
After eating and shopping for one round, went back to our hotel to "unload", and went out for another round of eating and shopping!! Hmm and eventually after shopping, we packed food back to hotel for supper.
=X Eat, shop, eat, shop, eat. Literally.
The crazy thing over here is, you know we move to different places/hotels almost everyday. So we have to packed up everyday and leave early the next morning. HOW TO PACK THE LOADS OF LOOTS IN?!?!?! Those who goes on shopping trips often will know the difficulty of having to pack your loots before leaving the next day. Just pack and squeeze, we did it. *Lights off*
