Mitch went Malaysia (JB) to play!!!

Yes!! I crossed the borders again!! Malaysia Johor Bahru (JB) is not only a great place for shopping and massage, food is also one of the factor why many Singaporeans always willing to take the squeezy bus, queue the very long queue at the customs to go JB. JB had changed pretty a lot over the years. When I first go there many years ago, I was told by my friends to wear lok kok (don't wear so nice), don't anyhow touch hair, etc etc. Making me like so freak out, or so scary to cross over that border. But over the years, they improved their transportation, like now you can safely reach the big City Square Mall right from the customs link-way, Taxis are readily available at the malls to mall-hop (though some times drivers do earn a few dollars more off you if they don't use the meter), you don't need to be afraid of wearing nice nice or short shorts over there, cos seriously, the girls and the fashion there are pretty trendy you know. You can find big brands there, H&M, Uniqlo, Pandora, etc etc etc. It has transformed to a more modern shopping heaven now. Well but having said that, while you are away from home, safety is still your priority, so don't be too complacent yet. =)

You would be thinking, "You serious about a food trip in JB? You won't find your favourite meat there you know?" ------ Yes, I know. But ya know, you be surprised how delicious the other meats are ok! ;) So, I was very excited to prepare for this entry. I posted on my Facebook and requested for someone to bring to JB for good food. and TADA! Boyfriend's friend's GF excitedly volunteered herself! So yea, it became a wonderful double date for us! Thank you Ellen & Steven for joining us! yay~~!!

We had wanted to have the traditional breakfast, before having a proper meal. But somehow, our legs took us to the stonegrill place.. O.O!! Seriously, don't ask me why it happened, cos initially it was raining heavily so we thought of having the stonegrill first, but I did though that the rained had stop, but we still ended up at Sizzling Stonegrill. Haha!

If you ordered the stone grills, meats all come raw. You are supposed to grill the piece of meat on the hot stone. I could see the hot stone is really pretty hot, cos all our meats are all cooked in no time! A small plate is also provided for you to move your cooked meat onto it, and you can have it with the black pepper sauce and either fried rice OR french fries. I really dislike pepper, but this black pepper sauce was quite good! =)  Every set also comes with some corn.

There are a few variety to choose from, Chicken, Beef, Lamp and Seafood. You can choose have them plainly grilled, marinated with oyster sauce, or yellow ginger & brown sugar.

Plain Grilled Chicken (w Prawn surpise from Steven's GF) - RM17.50
I tried a piece of it, I shall say it is quite tasty, especially I am not a big fan of chicken meat. The meat was soft and tender, obviously very well handled even though it came raw. After cooking, the slightly harden surface of the grilled meat, is really fragrant. - ya know that bbq smell. =P

Plain Grilled Sirlon Steak - RM31.80

Boyfriend is a huge fan of beef. I abstain from beef due to family religion, but I do sneak bites when I'm outside =X. I took a bite of it and it's awesome. =X I tried other steaks before, and it was taste fishy/beefy, there will be a stench or odour whatever you call it. But this really nice and very tender, without any bad after taste or stench all. It was just good. ^^D.. Given this price (with the privilege of currency exchange rate), this is really a good deal!

Ellen also had a beef set, with prawns - RM36.90

So what did I order, if my favorite meat is not available?

Grilled Lamb Marinated in Yellow Ginger & Brown Sugar - RM31.80

My second favourite is Lamb. And I also love fried rice (damn all that carbs!!!! why do you taste so nice! =X) Alot of people don't really like lamb is because of it's odour, and that odour is usually difficult to get rid of. For me, I really don't mind that stench actually (and I feel it's different from the beef stench), kind of like it sometimes too. BUT! Don't worry peeps, this awesome grilled lamb has got NO foul odour AT ALL. Pardon my cooking skills, it was a little over cooked. Let me reiterate that the hotstone is REALLY hot, by the time I finish taking photos, one side of it is oredi over-cooked. =/ I have to quickly flip over and toss it abit, and I could eat it already. The meat is very well handled, cos it's still soft (even it was overcooked). Oh, did I mentioned, I dislike ginger? I could totally accept this marinating sauce. It probably had been mixed well with the brown sugar. Yumz!

All these grilled stuff are quite tasty and good. Meats are all very nicely handled and marinated, soft and tender. Don't expect very very strong spice or taste, they tasted just nice. The price is very well affordable and worthy too!

Braving around the "shitty ambush"..

Next, we finally wanted to head out of the mall and look for some real good food. Supposed to be searching for the nice traditional toast & eggs (breakfast.. what??!!), but we really could not find it. Hence, we just walked around, looking for some nice cafes. Themed cafes are really in the trend now. cafe food everywhere is quite typical, prices of it in Singapore is somehow quite expensive. You also cannot quite guarantee the quality of its coffee sometimes. So, what about here in JB? Time to check those out!

We wanted to visit Art 52 Gallery Cafe. It used to be a combined concept of an art gallery and a cafe, however, the cafe had moved elsewhere.

So, we went to another one just right beside it. BEV Cafe

Ermm.. My model don't quite know how to pose. XD But I still love him ! <3

It is a 2 storeys cafe, the 1st storey is mainly a retail space, selling accessories and clothings. Very cool concept though. As we proceed up to the 2nd level, their cafe space, all the chairs and some parts of the wall are covered with white shirts, some stained =X. It is interesting, and I can't quite figure out the theme, probably, clothings or fashion?

Their menu is pretty thick, I managed to snap some of the main items in it.

Caramel Latte - RM10.90

Ellen ordered this. Aside from Starbuck's Caramel Frappucino, I have not met good caramel coffee, not even Chock Full Of Beans. But this one is nice! And it's a hot coffee! I guess I found a good hot coffee around. Hehe!

Mocha Latte - RM 10.90

Boyfriend ordered this. It is very seldom that I would like a cuppa hot coffee, I thought the Caramel Latte was an exceptional cos it taste sweet, but this Mocha Latte was good too! I probably liked the chocolatey taste.. Hehe, but please don't ask me try coffee black... >.<

White Chocolate Truffle Cake - RM13.90

How do I describe this cake. I haven come across any cakes with truffle... Yes, I love Truffle Fries, but cakes, kind of unique eh? Take a bite, and you understand it all. The truffle smell is strong, the frozen cream is smooth and nice, not too sweet. You can find some raisins in the cake too (I love raisins too!! =P), and the bottom is crust made of Oreo, can't get any wrong eh. Hehe overall this is a very unique taste but its nice. A good choice if you really wanted to try something other than the usual cakes.

Neh... Since I wasn't an avid coffee lover, I chose a fruit tea.

Strawberry Black Tea - RM 11.90

More expensive than the coffee but not to my liking. =/ Well the strawberry fragrance is there, but black tea is too bitter for me. Hence I didn't like it.

Weeeeee~ So where next do we go with our heavy and full stomach... Yay!! Watching movies in JB is good deal yea! RM72 for 4 tickets! The bear is sooo cuteee (minus the vulgarity ;))

And eat again... My model at work again~ smile~

Savoury crepes from Sweet Crepe! Hmmm.. Was just so-so.. Perhaps should really a "Sweet" Crepe next time..

Woo the old good Vanilla Coke!

Heyhey~~ My stomach will hungry in no time again ---- bunch of gluttons! Haha ok, me only.. =P

Here we are at Kimdo Seafood!!! The logo is very easy to recognise, do not miss this restaurant!
They serve both Tze Char and BBQ food.

There are a small selection of food available for BBQ, their bbq sauce is not bad and slightly spicy
We picked a few sticks of scallops, squid slice (mock abalone), venison meat, chicken wings, tofu skins, sotong. All for RM 36.30

The scallops were normal, squid slices are good. All these can't go wrong. Worth mentioning were the chicken wings and squid slices. they are quite awesome. I personally feel 4 sticks are not enough, but we had to keep our stomach for other food. The sotong tastes quite fresh too!Yumzzz

Hotplate Tofu 铁板豆腐 - RM15.00

Slightly salty and spicy. Nice to go with rice, haha..

Hotplate Wild Boar Meat (铁板山猪肉) - RM16.00

Well, having tasted better wild boar meat in Taiwan, I didn't quite like this. The meat slices were so thin, did not quite get a good taste. I do not think it is worth ordering though.

Next up the main dish!
Salted Egg Yolk Crab - RM156.00 for 2pc

Looks like a 600-700g medium Sri Lanka crab (about RM80 - 90 for one)

Not quite what we expected. I guess most of us had thought that salted egg yolk egg was supposed to be dry. But this version of salted egg yolk crabs is more buttery, milky and sweet. Very buttery for our taste, but tasted not too bad. You can also opt for buns to dip with the sauce, but I think it will taste as nice if you add it to rice. Hehe.

Meat were fresh, firm and succulent. Just the time of crab meat that I love. The shells were lightly cracked by the chef, making it easier to eat for the customers! A very cantonese style I would say. Though we can't really taste the salted egg yolk, but the buttery flavour is not bad too, and for this price, I think it is quite worth it. If you are prepared to spend abit more (RM100++), you can choose the bigger crabs which it is really much cheaper in Singapore!

In total, we spent about RM228 for the Tze Char and the BBQ food, which is about SGD82 for 4 pax. I don't think I need to reiterate how worth it was. I will definitely come back again and just order many types of crabs and BBQ food.
