DOJO
Woohoo!! I'm so excited to start writing this post!! Why? Cos I will be writing about something (food) that I am sooooo passionate about. Just what food that can make me go so ga-ga about it? If you have been following my posts in Taiwan, you could guess it. P-O-R-K. Oh I must have hated pigs in my previous life that I eat them like taking revenge in this life.
I have been wanting to blog about this cafe since I first came the previous time. but I hadn't set up a blog yet, so now I have a chance to! =D If you are also a fan of pork burgers, you really odd to read on and visit them later!
Boyfriend has got a pair of piano recital tickets of Lars Vogt on Saturday, so prior heading to VCH we went for dinner, at #DOJO - Just located around the Boat Quay area.
May The Pork Be With You.. Sound so holy..... good~
As you can see from credits hanging outside the cafe, you kind of know it is really a good burger place. ;)
Some seatings outside of the air-conditioned area
Some creative chalk posters
Their menu. DOJO offers a variety of burger, though mostly are of pork meat patties. There are only 1 Chicken Burger. Their price looks pretty high for a burger set, that include a can of soft drinks and fries. You may actually opt for and upgrade to other flavoured fries or organic sodas for a few more dollars.
So all in all, DOJO do serve quite a variety of food, burgers, snacks, simple pizza and sandwiches.
Boyfriend and I decided to try a few burgers and snacks. Actually the price adds up to about S$21.50 per pax, more of an average restaurant price, but if you just order 2 burger sets and snacks, it could just be below S$20 for one person.
After you decided what you wanted to eat, just placed your order at the counter and you will be given a wireless pager. Do note that this cafe only accepts nets if the total bill is above S$25, else cash payment is needed.
Once your food is ready, the wireless pager will ring and notify you. You may proceed to the pick up counter and collect your food. If you notice, this is very self-service, hence, there are no GST/service chargeable!
All the food came in bamboo containers.
Big Boss Set - S$14.00
This is one of the more expensive burger set in the menu. The ingredients here is really alot - Pork patty, bacon, egg, onion rings, lettuce, cheese and mayonaise. This is the second time that I ordered this burger. Their pork patties are all fresh minced meat, beaten and marinated till tender and soft, unlike those processed meat with added starch that is so rubbery when you bite it. I am not a fan of mayonaise, but how the cheese blends in with the mayonaise, accompanied by the fragrance of the meat, the whole taste is.... awesome. I couldn't stop biting into the burger, mouth after mouth. The taste of the bacon, onion rings and egg are not obvious, but I'm sure it would taste different if without them. The bacon itself is pretty fragrant too.
Kaiju Alacarte - S$10 (less S$2 for as an alacarte)
As I find it really too filling to order so many sets (with so much fries!), I decided to just order this burger as an alacarte, and save S$2 for us! There is no need to waste extra penny just because it is "worth -it".
This burger had a thicker patty, not sure if it was meant to be this way, or just the way the chef does it. It looked even plainer than the Hikkori burger, with 3 types of mushrooms - shitake, champignon and straw mushrooms. However, the taste is different from the way it looks! The sauce has a distinct mushroom taste, and has a little fragrant of a herby spice. Boyfriend definitely loved this more than the Hikkori burger that he ordered.
We ordered 2 side snacks.
Pork Nugget Yakitori - S$3
Pork Belly (Tare) - S$3
These side snacks come in bigger portions at a few dollars more. It is up to your choice to which you want to order, but since we want to try more variety, we decided to order different types in smaller quantity.
This pork belly tare (Tare means marinated. They also have one named 'shio' means not marinated), is very awesome. Very tender and soft despite being so thick! If you are a pork-lover who are ok with the fats bits, you will definitely love this! The teriyaki sauce is also very smooth to my taste.
This pork nugget was just ok-. Since it is deep fried, I find it quite hard to bite.
Their Pork Grillets are also one of their popular snack in the menu. Boyfriend likes it, but it was unavailable when we went.
This is definitely one of the nicer burger place (that serves pork burgers) that I will return for. It's time to ditch the normal fast-food burgers and pamper your tastebuds for once! Come to DOJO!

Every set also come with a dip sauce for the fries. It taste like a blend of tomato puree, tabasco and rosemary. I don't think my tongue is so powerful to taste all the ingredients lah! But it taste really good and light.
Hikkori Set - S$13.00
Boyfriend ordered this set. Looks plain, with a meat patty, bacon and smoky hikkori sauce. The smoky fragrant is quite strong and distinct. The bacon is really pretty good, but boyfriend find it not crispy. For me, I'm pretty ok with it, cos normally bacons are very saltish, but this is just right!
